The Annual General Meeting of the St Helena Heritage Society was held at Wellington House on Wednesday night. It attracted 26 people, including His Excellency, Governor Gurr, and six Councillors.
The Chairman’s report said that the Museum of St Helena had 2,800 visitors during the year and had held six exhibitions. The outgoing Chairman, Mrs Ivy Ellick, OBE, also said that the work on the £75k visitors’ centre was proceeding on schedule. |
The election of a new Committee took place. Mr Nick Thorpe was elected President and the outgoing committee was re-elected with Ivy Ellick, OBE, as Chairman, John Newman, OBE, as Vice-Chairman, Catherine Turner as Treasurer and Cathy Hopkins as Secretary. Governor Gurr commented on the proposal for a St Helena Heritage Project, which was presented at the meeting, saying that “the obvious interlinking between
the airport, a successful tourism industry and a well preserved and marketed island heritage is the key to wealth creation on the Island.” |
