1. The St Helena National Trust is an independent ‘not-for-profit’ organization, established on the 21st May 2002, the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the Island, with the following purposes:
2. The Trust is established by Ordinance supported by the subscriptions of its members, grants, donations and legacies. The Trust brings together the St Helena Heritage Society, the St Helena Nature Conservation Group, the Art & Crafts Association, the St Helena Diving Club, the St Helena Farmers’ Association, the St Helena Fishermen’s Association and the Tourism Association. As member organizations of the Trust these associations and societies, maintain themselves as independent bodies, and with a nominated representative on the Trust Council, form the majority of the Council. 3. Subscription income from membership dues basically covers membership services. 4. The Trust will continue to seek to raise funds by grant, donation and legacies for the development of its core activities, such as the National Heritage Register as well as for its projects: the Flaxmill Museum, the Millennium Forest; built heritage, nature conservation and education projects and publications. 5. Donors making donations of £1000 or more will be recognized as “Friends of the Trust”, those donors making donations of £5,000 or more will be recognized as “Guardians of the Trust” and in both cases will be invited to any special functions organized by the Trust and other benefits as considered appropriate by the Trust Council. 6. The Trust will publish the name of donors making contributions of £250 or more, to the Trust, in any one year, unless requested not to do so by the donor. Donors will be acknowledged in a list of donors at the bottom of all our headed letters and in other Trust publications such as Newsletters and on our Website and in any specific media promotion where a donation has contributed to a particular project. The donors’ list will be compiled starting with Guardians and Friends at the top of the list, and will follow in descending order- donations of £1,000 or more, £500-£1,000, £250-500, £250. The Trust will include the logo of the company or organization of donors making a contribution of £1,000 or more. 8. Donations in kind (e.g. a computer, paper, printing, assisting with accommodation for travelling personnel, etc.) will also be welcomed and when valued at £250 or more will be treated as if they were a cash donation as in section 6 above. 9. Bequests and donations may be specifically designed to cater for the interests of the individual. As examples: an organization or person may wish to contribute to the restoration of an historic building and might want to have this indicated in publicity, promotion and literature about the work or on display through a plaque. Donors making contributions to the Millennium Forest in the year 2000 were recognized with the publication of their names and logos on the information boards at the Forest and sponsors of display cabinets at the Museum have plaques dedicating their sponsorship on the cabinets. 10.
