Making Heart Shape Waterfall accessible to all

The Heart Shape Waterfall is one of St Helena’s most picturesque natural attractions. Yet although it is less than two miles from the heart of Jamestown very few people ever visit it. The old path is overgrown with wild mango and other invasives, and in places is steep enough to deter all but the hardiest souls.

The Trust was generously donated the land around the waterfall by the French Consul in 2007. We now have funding to create a new access route. The invasive scrub will need to be cleared and six bridges constructed to span the watercourse. The route will include viewpoints, walkways and interpretation boards. After some delays a contractor has now been appointed and work will begin in earnest in early 2010. This brings us a step closer to opening up this magical place for the enjoyment of all.

The project is funded by the Overseas Territories Environment Programme (OTEP).
